We choose the Ch. Lemosa Alejandro for this Uli's first crossing because between them there exists a light consanguinity that could help us to fix characters. In the moment of the crossing Lemosa Alejandro already had demonstrated his fertility with a magnificent litter of nothing less that eight puppies ¡ and also he was calling us the attention of him his happy, spontaneous and playful character.
The inconvenient only one which we were facing was a long trip to Seville, in complicated dates and with the just days to realize the amount. The only way of guaranteeing the success was doing a meticulous follow-up of Uli's zeal to make concrete with accuracy the dates of the fertile days.
We realize vaginal cytologies on the 2nd, 5 and 9 of the zeal, giving like proved on the 2nd and 5th that the bitch was in proestro, and on the 9th that the estro had begun. The same day we did test of progesterone.

Two technologies exist for the valuation of the progesterone in blood:

RIA: Radius inmuno analysis, it is a question of the method mas precisely on having given us a numerical concrete value (quantitative method) obtained by means of the trustworthiest analytical technology.

Enzyme inmuno analysis, ELISA it is a question of kits less precise, more reduction sales, easily available, and of rapid execution. They can be quantitative, with major precision, available in the laboratories, or semiquantitative that give us proved in ranges of progesterone according to the perception of a color that offers us the kit, take his rapidity as an advantage being able to be realized in any clinic, and they present as disadvantage his minor precision since the intensity of the color that we obtain as result will depend on the temperature environment, the quality of the sample of whey (that does not exist hemólisis, etc.).

We use the Radius inmuno analysis. Our veterinarian did the extraction of blood in the early morning, so that the messenger company was gathering the sample on the same morning to deliver in the laboratory. On the 9th September (5 days after the amount): Uli has nauseas the whole day and does not eat. The following day she recovers the appetite in the night. This us demonstrates that the gestation is possible.
On September 10: vaginal yellow flow. There is realized a vaginal cytology that indicates an infection. Rejected leucocitosis blood test that might indicate infection in the endometrium. Treatment with antibiotic (Clavaseptin 50 mg 1 comp. every 12 hours for 10 days) and vaginal washes with Lindemil solution 20ml/l. of water.
On October 4: Uli presents cough of kennels, not very loudly for being vaccinated. We decide not to give treatment and she sent alone in 2 days.

The childbirth begins at 9 a.m. of November 3. As we were afraid, to the alone being two puppies, your foetal development was excessive, for what they presented problems for the expulsion. The first one, a female, was born alive in spite of the fact that it was a necessary help for her extraction. Her weight on having been born was of 190 gr. After two hours of contractions the second one was born, but in this case the delay in the expulsion meant that was suffocating. She was born died with a weight of 230 gr.

Analyzing the curve of progesterone we determine that one day was absent for the ovulation and three days by the beginning of the fertile period, since the ova are late two days in maturing. With these values we realize two amounts, the days that appear in the graph as 4 and 5, that is to say the first and second fertile day.

On having had realized progesterone and having counted with the exact date of the ovulation, the date of the childbirth can be calculated by accuracy, counting 63 days after the above mentioned date. This was indicating us as probable day of the childbirth on November 3. We realize ultrasound scan on the 28th in September (to 23 days counted from the 14th of zeal) and the gestation is confirmed. On October 29 (5 days before the date foreseen for the childbirth) we realize X-ray photography and are observed 2 puppies of big size.

To two days of the childbirth we detect a mastitis in the first breast of the right chain. The probable reason is that the bitch had a great quantity of milk, to nurse an entire litter, and only she was sucking a puppy. We treat with Amoxicilina/acido clavulánico 125 - MERCK 3ml/12 hours for 7 days. We milk the breast affected to prevent it being from recharged.
On having finished the treatment the production of milk already had regularized and adapted to the demand and already there were no any more incidents.
